style.ish love: Melissa & Kenley Day After

St. John Day After

Usually for our day after sessions, we like to go outside of the resort to get some pictures of the area that we all traveled so far to see, but for Melissa and Kenley, we didn’t need to leave Caneel Bay at all.  The property had everything, from the beach, to gardens and even old sugar mill ruins!  It was so fun to walk around this gigantic resort and find beautiful things to take pictures of every which way.

style.ish wedding: Melissa and Kenley - St. John

St. John Wedding

Melissa and Kenley got married on the beautiful island of St. John at Caneel Bay which is an amazing resort with gorgeous views and beaches everywhere you look.  Melissa had told me that they had found this location when Kenley saw a show on the Travel Channel (I think) and thought it looked amazing so they booked it.  She was a little nervous arriving since she’d never been here but they had absolutely nothing to worry about, everything was more beautiful than you could ever imagine!

Melissa had told me about the wild donkeys on the resort and I was dying to see one.  When I snuck up close to take a picture (there were two in this area) the other started walking towards me and making a noise like “get out of here.” I squealed and ran!  :)

We arrived to a very relaxed crew of bridesmaids and Mother of the bride in Melissa’s and Kenley’s room.  It was planned that Kenley was going to get ready in another room but he ended up sticking around.  I loved how casual their getting ready was.  Although I think the girl talk may have put Kenley to sleep ;)

After Kenley was dressed and off to wait in another room, the girls started getting ready and that’s when it started feeling like a true bridal suite, lots of giddiness and laughing.  It is such a fun part of being a bride and I love that I get to be a part of it in every wedding we shoot.

style.ish family: Hsu Family

We met with Ethan and his parents on a very warm spring day and had a blast running around the park and finding all sorts of toys for Ethan to play with.  Ethan is an adorable 2 year old who is so outgoing and chatty!  He didn’t even care that we were trying to take pictures of him and he chatted with us during the entire shoot.

Elaine had put her bag down to keep it out of the shot but Ethan noticed it and he ran over  to get mommy’s bag to her.  He then managed to turn it upside down and have everything fall out of it as he walked.  I laughed so hard at these pictures seeing poor dad trailing Ethan trying to pick up all the stuff that fell out.  At least he got the bag to mom right?  LOL!

Ethan, thanks for letting us hang out with you and your parents for the afternoon!  We had such a fun time!

style.ish love: Kerri and Barry, day after

Kerri and Barry had rented a car during their stay in Jamaica so we decided to do a little bit of exploring for their day after session and we sure found some amazing spots to make some pretty pictures!  One of the first spots we found was this adorable boat next to the beach…

Jared and I had actually spotted this horse in the field the day before when we had been walking around.  Jared had mentioned how cool it would be to get Kerri and Barry with the horse but we weren’t sure that it would still be there during our day after session.  Well, sure enough, the horse was there and Kerri and Barry were more than happy to go take pictures with it!  The owner actually stopped by as he had heard that people were taking pictures of his horse (word travels fast in that little area!) so, he stopped by with his son to tell us about their horse named Fire and helped us get some great pictures of him!

In between stumbling upon cute boats and gorgeous horses, we found great colorful and textured houses along the road.

And then back to Tensing Pen to capture a few pictures of the resort.  Tensing Pen has the cutest cottages that you stay in so you totally feel like you have your own little home on the property.  I adore the cottage that Kerri and Barry stayed in, with the little bridge leading the way.

We had to get some pictures of the infamous bridge where (brave) people love to jump off into the water below.  It’s a skinny little bridge that looks terrifying, but it’s actually really stable to walk on so it just looks scarier than it really is.  However, I was impressed that Kerri was into the idea of sitting on the bridge in her dress.  I know how heavy wedding dresses can be and they are not so easy to maneuver in but I’m glad she did as I love these pictures!

style.ish wedding: Kerri and Barry - Negril, Jamaica

For most of the destination weddings we shoot, we usually don’t meet the bride and groom until we arrive at the location.  For Kerri and Barry, our first “meeting” was hearing Barry yell “TIFFANYYYY!!!” while on a catamaran sailing past our resort while I stood at the edge of the pool waving but unsure of who exactly I was waving at!  When we finally met (on land), we were instantly welcomed by them and their wonderful group of family and friends.  It was such an instant feeling to me of just how fun this couple and this wedding would be and it for sure did not disappoint!

The day was absolutely beautiful. A bit hot, but beautiful!

Kerri was such a beautiful bride and SO calm!  All morning long I was waiting for a little bit of nerves or stress but none at all!  She was just ready to be married!

I’m always a big fan of when couples decide to do the first look before the ceremony.  It’s just such a sweet and happy moment between the couple, it’s one of my favorite moments during the wedding day!

Right before the ceremony we had to make sure to go take a visit to Ras Rudy’s restaurant.  If you are ever in Negril, you gotta visit Ras Rudy’s!

I loved how Kerri and Barry had so many family members involved in their ceremony.  Barry’s sister has an amazing voice and she sang during the ceremony and Kerri’s cousin, George, officiated the wedding and did such a spectacular job.

As some of you may know, Jared and I got married at Tensing Pen a few years ago and we’ve been able to go back every year since.  We shot Leah and Daivin’s beautiful wedding there last year and going back for Kerri and Barry’s wedding this year was just a treat.  I will never ever get sick of seeing this scenery.  Just gorgeous.

When we were off taking the above pictures, the guests got to enjoy cocktail hour over the pool and really, you can’t really beat cocktail hour with a view like this!
